Managing RET contributions

How to manage RET contributions in quarterly submissions

Important update: The Gambling Act Review introduced a statutory levy that came into force on 6 April 2025. Following consultation we have therefore removed the requirement from paragraph 2 of Social Responsibility (SR) Code Provision 3.1.1, which previously required licensees to make an annual financial contribution to one or more organisations delivering research, prevention and treatment from 31 March 2025.

The Gambling Commission has received a number of queries on how the Responsible Gambling contribution should be completed for quarterly submissions.

This guide provides an explanation of how this section of the returns should be completed for contributions up to 31 March 2025.

Key information

Important changes to RET contributions include:

  • until 31 March 2025, licensees were required to make an annual financial contribution under Social Responsibility Code 3.1.1(2)
  • you must still submit your responsible gambling contributions for January to March 2025 in your quarterly regulatory return (due April 28 2025) (you should complete the RET section in the period that you make the contribution, otherwise mark the section as no)
  • from April 2025, voluntary contributions are no longer required
  • the contribution question will be removed from regulatory returns in June 2025.
