5 - Timing of verification

Casino operators must comply with the requirement to verify the identity of the customer, any person claiming to act on behalf of the customer and, where applicable, any beneficial owner before the establishment of a business relationship or the carrying out of the transaction.89

The Regulations permit casino operators to complete verification during the establishment of a business relationship if:

  • this is necessary so as not to interrupt the normal conduct of business
  • there is little risk of money laundering and terrorist financing occurring, provided that the verification is completed as soon as practicable after contact is first established with the customer.90
