Gambling premises data

Request

I have found the data that you provide on the location of gambling premises.

I was wondering if you have additional information about the premises such as: opening hours; floor space; counts of type of machines (in AGC), etc.

Also if you can provide historic information, i.e. the premises open in 2019-2024

Response

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

In your email you have referenced the gambling premises data available on the Gambling Commission website. You have requested additional information about the premises such as:

  • opening hours
  • floor space
  • counts of type of machines (in AGC), etc.

Further to this, you have requested historic information, i.e. the premises open in 2019-2024

Firstly, the Gambling Commission does not collect information regarding premises size or opening times as part of it regulatory functions. You may access this information by enquiring directly with a gambling premises.

Further to this, the Commission does not collect information on the specific number of machines within each Adult Gaming Centre (AGC). A licenced AGC can offer an unlimited number of category C and D gaming machines and up to 20 percent of the total number of machines, can be of category B3 or B4. More information can be found on the Commission website:

Adult gaming centre

Finally, the Gambling Commission publishes a live register of gambling premises on its website, this information is updated nightly.

The Gambling Commission does not retain historical records or previously published versions of the premises licence register. The register is generated dynamically, pulling data directly from our live systems at the point of publication.

As such, we do not hold specific records of premises licences for previous years. However, in response to another recent FOI request we have provided a spreadsheet with a list of active premises data that we hold and their start date which may be of use to you. This can by viewed on our FOI disclosure log here:

When gambling premises were opened

The register is published with the caveat that the Gambling Commission cannot provide any assurances on the completeness and accuracy of this data.

The Commission does not issue premises licences. The licensing of premises for gambling businesses is the responsibility of local licensing authorities (normally the Local Authority for the area where the business is located). You should contact individual licensing authorities to obtain more detailed information about premises licences.
