Board minutes 15 July 2021

1. Welcome, apologies and declarations of interest

AVDG welcomed Board Members to the meeting. There were no new declarations of interest.

2. Minutes and matters arising from May 2021

The minutes were reviewed and agreed.

3. Updates from Board Members and Horizon Scanning

AVDG gave an update from Gambling Commission Board meetings, and the group noted the latest progress on the Gambling Act Review work.

3.2 The Group noted the following points:

  • Advisory groups have given feedback on changes to participation and prevalence statistics and further input from ABSG would be welcome
  • Single Customer View (SCV) – the Commission is continuing work on development, and clear advice on how it could be achieved is needed
  • LB is following up enquiries with local Coroners service regarding the link between gambling and suicide
  • AVDG, TL and LB attended the launch of the Behavioural Insights Team research
  • CC noted that the RSPH have launched a level 2 award on tackling gambling harms, aimed at those working in the industry
  • UR attended a session on gambling at the WHO Forum on Alcohol, Drugs and Addictive Behaviours and this was the first time that gambling was included on the main agenda.

4. Gambling Act Review

ABSG were asked in June 2021 to provide a summary of their advice to the Commission. This will inform the Commission’s formal advice to the Government as part of the Gambling Act review.

Members reviewed the draft advice in detail, and agreed actions and timescales for completion.
