Operators placed-into special measures

Request

I note the information falling within part 1 of my request is readily available.

I would be grateful for the disclosure of that information.

I note that with regard to part 2 of the request, the information is readily available from the date the amount of monies divested was recorded centrally, which was around late 2021.

I would be grateful for the information which is readily available for part 2 of the request, from around late 2021 onwards. I will therefore narrow my request and not require the data for 2020/21 or for 2021/22 where it would require a manual search of the records.

It would be helpful to have clarity on a more precise date from when the amount of monies divested under special measures was recorded centrally.

Response

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Following on from your previous request, which can be viewed on the Gambling Commission website:

Companies placed into special measures

The Gambling Commissions responses to your narrowed request are as follows:

  1. The number of gambling firms put into special measures by the commission for each of the last five years:

FY 2020/21 - 7

FY 2021/22 - 4

FY 2022/23 - 12

FY 2023/24 - 10

FY 2024/25 - 5

  1. The information which is readily available for the total amount of voluntary divestments made by firms under the special measures regime for each of the last five years.

FY 2021/22 - £194,731.00

FY 2022/23 - £603,620.12

FY 2023/24 - £434,519.00

FY 2024/25 - £51,624.67

It should be noted that not all operators who enter the special measures regime result in a voluntary divestment.

  1. It would be helpful to have clarity on a more precise date from when the amount of monies divested under special measures was recorded centrally.

The Gambling Commission does not record the date at which monies were divested.

The figures in answer to part two of your request have been generated from our records management system, where our compliance information is now recorded, including the start and end of an assessment period, during which the recommendation for a divestment would be made.

Review of the decision

If you are not content with the outcome of our review, you may then apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have already exhausted the review procedure provided by the Gambling Commission.
