Lottery (Lotto) ticket sales

Please could I obtain details of lottery ticket sales (Lotto only), either by value or volume broken down between in store and online sales since October 2015.

Please could I also obtain details of whether the winning tickets were purchased in store or online and whether it was a single ticket or multiple purchase.

This is not commercially sensitive information so should not be an issue to release.

Response

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

In your email you have requested details of lottory ticket sales (Lotto only), either by value or volume broken down between in store and online sales since October 2015.

Further to this, you have requested details of whether the winning tickets were purchased in store or online and whether it was a single ticket or multiple purchase.

Please see the attached breakdown of retail and non-retail Lotto sales from 1 October 2015 to 24 December 2022 (In line with Camelot’s most recent reporting).

Having completed a check of our records, I can confirm that the Commission does not collect data on the number of winning tickets which resulted as a purchase from retail or non-retail sources. Neither do we collect information regarding winning tickets being part of sigle or multiple purchase Therefore, we are unable to provide any information in relation to this part of your request.

The Commission is responsible for licensing and regulating the National Lottery, ensuring the interests of participants are protected and maximising returns for Good Causes; we do not collect details on the split you have requested.

This information may be processed by Camelot as the operator of the National Lottery but it is not information we are required to collect in support of our regulatory functions.

Review of the decision

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your Freedom of Information request you are entitled to an internal review of our decision.
