Active licences

Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act, could you please provide a list of all currently active Adult Gaming, Betting Shop, Bingo, Casino and Family Entertainment Centre licences that are operating within the North East of England in Excel format. If delivered as a comma-separated file (CSV), please use quotation marks around each data field to ensure proper parsing of the data.

The new information I am requesting that is not shown on your website for these licences is the following;

Firstly, what is the date the licence took effect (or approved from) to allow the holder to allow operation to sell these to the public from their premise (betting shop, bingo hall, casino etc). I am trying to work out the length of time these licenses have been in operation since they have been approved. I am unsure if you hold this data about each licence, if you do could you please send me this data.

The data should be within the following 12 local authorities that makes up the North East of England.

  • Middlesbrough Council
  • Redcar & Cleveland Council
  • Hartlepool Borough Council
  • Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council
  • Darlington Borough Council
  • Durham County Council
  • Gateshead Council
  • Sunderland Council
  • South Tyneside Council
  • North Tyneside Council
  • Newcastle City Council
  • Northumberland County Council

Information about each retailer should include the following data. If a data item (column) is marked "optional", then please include the data item if it is available, but if that data item is not available please continue with the request without that specific data item. If a data item is partially available (available only for a subset of records), then please include the information on those records it is available and leave blank for the records it is not available.

All operators who are licensed, or in the process of being licensed, by the Commission can be found on our Licensee register, which is regularly updated. This can be found on our website: Full register of gambling businesses - Gambling Commission.

The Gambling Commission publishes a live register of gambling premises on its website, which can be found here: Public Register. This information is updated nightly.

The Commission does not issue premises licences. The licensing of premises for gambling businesses is the responsibility of local licensing authorities (normally the Local Authority for the area where the business is located). You should contact individual licensing authorities to obtain more detailed information about premises licences: You can find your local licensing authority on GOV.UK (opens in new tab)

The live public register is published with the caveat that the Gambling Commission cannot provide any assurances on the completeness and accuracy of this data.

In relation to your specific request, the public register will need to be downloaded and cross referenced with the register of gambling businesses, which can be found here: Download the register of gambling businesses.

You can also download individual datasets from the spreadsheets in CSV format.
