k) Functional and presentational currency

The Commission's functional and presentational currency is sterling. The very small number of transactions denominated in a foreign currency have been translated into sterling at the exchange rate ruling on the date of the transaction. Resulting exchange gains and losses are recognised in the Commission's surplus or deļ¬cit in the period in which such gains or losses arise.
