What is a sanction?
When a licence holder has not followed rules and regulations aimed at ensuring gambling is fair, safe and crime-free, we can take action and impose the following sanctions:
- Give the licensee a warning
- Add, remove, or amend a condition to the licence
- Suspend a licence
- Revoke a licence
- Impose a financial penalty

Details of action
Following a section 116 licence review, the Commission determined to revoke the Personal Functional Licence (PFL) of Mr Alexander Daniel Laurence Hughes (the Licensee) under the provisions of section 119 of the Gambling Act 2005 (the Act). The Commission found:
- the circumstances leading to the Licensee’s dismissal for gross misconduct raised serious concerns as to the Licensee’s suitability to hold a licence, specifically their competence and integrity
- the Licensee failed to inform the Commission of his subjection to criminal investigation which is listed under Schedule 7 Relevant Offences of the Act, within the required timeframe which is a breach of his licence
- the Licensee failed to inform the Commission of his conviction of offence(s) listed under Schedule 7 Relevant Offences of the Act, within the required timeframe which is a breach of his licence
- the Licensee failed to inform the Commission of his dismissal for gross misconduct, which is a breach of his licence and demonstrated a lack of insight or understanding of the seriousness of what happened, the reasons that led up to a problem or the consequences
- the Licensee failed to cooperate with the review, demonstrating a persistent lack of insight or understanding of the seriousness of the events and review.
