Gambling Commission holds regional workshops for two popular arcade hotspots

21 June 2017

The Gambling Commission has visited two regions popular for arcade and family entertainment centres.

The visit was key to reinforcing key licence requirements as well as discussing local risk assessments, anti-money laundering and assurance statements1.

The Commission hosted a workshop in Grimsby on 14 June, and a second one in Taunton on 21 June, with over 40 local arcade and family entertainment centre owners attending.

Helen Venn, programme director at the Gambling Commission comments: “We appreciate that it’s sometimes hard for small businesses to feel they are being given the same voice as larger gambling businesses.

“This is why we have decided to host these events - the first in Grimsby and the second in Taunton – to give local arcade owners the opportunity to hear first-hand from Commission compliance and policy experts about the expectations and challenges facing their businesses straight from the regulator.

“It’s been a really important opportunity for us to engage with smaller operators on a face-to-face basis, but also to reemphasise with the importance of gambling businesses taking their anti-money laundering and social responsibility requirements seriously.

“We will be looking at hosting further events later in the year, but in the meantime will be offering a webinar to other businesses that couldn’t attend.”

Keep an eye on our website for more information about the webinar.

1 Annual assurance statements are designed to improve the focus on, and accountability for, the delivery of the licensing objectives by the boards, or equivalent senior leadership structures, of large gambling businesses.
