Continuous Improvement
Programme of Continuous Improvement
In line with best practice the Gambling Commission will continue to refine and improve the Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB).
Implementing the recommendations from the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR)
As a new source of official statistics, the Commission asked the OSR to undertake a review of the GSGB to assess its compliance against the Code of Practice for Statistics, to build trust amongst our users and to help inform the continued development of the survey. In May 2025, the OSR published their review of the GSGB (opens new tab).
In July 2025 we published our response to the OSR review of the GSGB , describing work already completed in line with the recommendations and the proposed actions we plan to take.
In January 2026 we published an update to our response to OSR’s assessment of the GSGB , describing further work completed in line with the recommendations and the proposed actions we plan to take.
Implementing the recommendations from Professor Sturgis
In February 2024, Professor Sturgis published an independent review of the GSGB. The independent review (opens new tab) assessed the GSGB’s methodological approach and made recommendations for further research to ensure the quality and robustness of the statistics. The recommendations focus on how the Gambling Commission can continue to build stakeholder and public confidence in the survey by examining the extent to which changes in our methodology may have affected estimates of gambling behaviours.
We have outlined how we plan to address each of these recommendations.
