Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

In your email you have requested information in relation to licence reviews.

Please note that you have referred to our ‘145 Regulatory Investigations’ as ‘Licence Reviews’ within your request. The Gambling Commission must ensure that it is made clear that these are Regulatory Investigations and not just licence reviews.

The Gambling Commission can confirm as follows:

The Commission did not manually check all current licences issued. Instead, it reviewed its internal database that logs regulatory investigations.

  1. Does the Commission operate a computer database that records the date of commencement of a licence review?

The Commission does not operate a computer database that records the date of commencement of a licence review.

  1. Does the Commission operate a computer database that allowed an operator to establish, by the use of data filters, that 145 of the licence reviews it has commenced were commenced in 2025?

The Commission does operate a database that allows filtering of regulatory investigations. Using the database, it was established that 145 regulatory investigations were commenced in 2025.

  1. Does the Commission operate a computer database that records the date of the issue of a licence review preliminary findings letter to a licensee?

The Commission does not operate a computer database that records the date on which a licence review preliminary findings letter is issued to a licensee.

The Commission does not operate a computer database that records the date on which a final decision letter is issued to a licensee.

Review of the decision

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your Freedom of Information request you are entitled to an internal review of our decision.
