Cost of Gas and Electricity

Request

We believe there is an innate public interest in the disclosure of environmental information to the public, as well as a general public interest in all publicly funded organisations in being transparent and accountable regarding the environmental information they hold. Disclosing information on the overall cost of gas and electricity to your organisation for the last 2 financial years, would better allow the public to understand the energy needs of all government and key public sector organisations and would also aid the public to better scrutinise environmentally related expenditure to determine that it is cost-effective and appropriate.

Response

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

In your email you have requested information on the overall cost of gas and electricity to the Gambling Commission for the last 2 financial years.

The Gambling Commission is a tenant within a building. The arrangements for supply of our energy is managed by our landlord; they are billed by the energy provider, and this is then re-charged to ourselves. We get billed as part of our service charge for our energy use. The landlord simply takes the total building’s energy bill and splits it across the various tenants.

As such, the breakdown of information you have requested is not held by the Commission.

Review of the decision

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your Freedom of Information request you are entitled to an internal review of our decision. You should write to FOI Team, Gambling Commission, 4th floor, Victoria Square House, Victoria Square, Birmingham, B2 4BP or by reply to this email.

Please note, internal review requests should be made within 40 working days of the initial response. Requests made outside this timeframe will not be processed.

If you are not content with the outcome of our review, you may then apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have already exhausted the review procedure provided by the Gambling Commission.

The ICO can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office (opens in a new tab), Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
