Since its launch in November 1994, the National Lottery has raised over £49 billion for good causes that include sports (including Olympic athletes), arts and heritage, as well as health, education and the environment.
Funds are raised from the sale of National Lottery games and supplemented by items such as unclaimed prizes. The funds for good causes are held in the National Lottery Distribution Fund (NLDF).

This was £18.7 million (4.2 percent) above Quarter 4 (January to March) 2023 to 2024 and £56.4 million (13.7 percent) above Quarter 1 in 2023 to 2024. The last 5 quarters have generated £2.2 billion for good causes.

Details
Funds raised for good causes in Quarter 1 2024 to 2025 were £18.7 million (4.2 percent) higher than Quarter 4 2023 to 2024, and £56.4 million (13.7 percent) higher than Quarter 1 2023 to 2024.
Total National Lottery sales increased by £18.2 million (0.9 percent) compared to Quarter 4 2023 to 2024, primarily due to an increase in EuroMillions sales of £71.3 million (16.8 percent). When compared to Quarter 1 2023 to 2024, total sales experienced an increase of £114.3 million (6.2 percent).
Returns to good causes in Quarter 1 2024 to 2025 also benefitted from additional payments received following the close down of the Third Licence.

1Amounts relate to total value of proceeds from game sales and other income and adjustments, including unclaimed prizes, raised for good causes. For clarity Quarter 1 of 2024 to 2025 covers a 13-week period (31st March to 29th June), as do Quarter 1 and Quarter 4 of 2023 to 2024.
2Quarter 4 2023 to 2024 reporting period covers across the final month of the Third National Lottery Licence (January) and the first two months of the Fourth National Lottery Licence (February – March).
