4 - Purposes

4.1. The Gambling Commission (the Commission) was created by section 20 of the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain in partnership with licensing authorities. The Commission took over the National Lottery Commission’s functions on 1 October 2013 with the Public Bodies Order 2013 (Merger of the Commission and the National Lottery Commission) coming into force. As a result, the Commission now regulates commercial gambling and the National Lottery.
