Consultation response on the funding of gambling regulation

14 June 2021

Gambling Commission welcomes publication of consultation response on the funding of gambling regulation

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has published its response following a consultation into the funding of the Gambling Commission.

The consultation, which ran from the 29 January until 25 March 2021, proposed an uplift to our fees based on proposals we put forward. This is separate to the ongoing Gambling Act Review.

The response accepts our proposals to raise our fees and we welcome this DCMS consultation response as it ensures much needed changes to our fee income that will enable us to continue to regulate effectively.

We are already making gambling safer - having introduced strict new guidance for so-called VIP schemes, announced a package of strict measures to make online products safer by design and banning gambling with credit cards – but further resources will mean we are able to make greater and faster progress in making gambling safer and protecting consumers in the years to come.

We are a relatively small regulator and gambling is a fast-moving industry which must be regulated effectively.

You can read the consultation response and implementation details on GOV UK website (opens in new tab).
