Ruth Evans appointed new Chair of the Gambling Commission

07 September 2026

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has today announced the appointment of the new Chair of the Gambling Commission.

Ruth Evans has been appointed as Chair of the Gambling Commission by the Rt Hon Lisa Nandy, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The appointment follows Charles Counsell's period as Interim Chair, having stepped into the role following Marcus Boyle's departure in January 2025.

Ruth will commence in the role from 30 September for a 5-year term.

The Gambling Commission would like to thank Charles Counsell for his leadership and commitment during his time as Interim Chair, which provided stability for the organisation during an important period.

Further details about the appointment are available in the DCMS announcement (opens in new tab).
