National Strategy first year update and actions maps for year 1 and 2

The Gambling Commission has today published an overview of implementation actions delivered during the first year of the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms.
The Gambling Commission has today published an overview of implementation actions delivered during the first year of the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms. The overview report should be read alongside setting out the actions to reduce gambling harms in Great Britain. These provide a full year summary and update the versions published in July 2019 and again in January 2020.
The map of actions outlines the activities and workstreams underway by a range of partners, and includes a final Year 1 actions map and an indicative actions map for Year 2. The implementation overview will help stakeholders navigate the actions map, with more detail and links to further information about programmes and actions, and a summary of progress towards the Strategy’s three-year aims. These documents together reflect some of the key developments and progress made over the first year, set out information about emerging work and identified gaps being addressed to help further discussion and target action. These actions are being delivered collaboratively between partners including health bodies, charities, regulators and the gambling industry.
To complete a package of information being shared about progress with the Strategy, the Commission has also published the paper “Next Steps on measuring harms, impact and success” which sets out progress made on developing and improving our understanding of gambling harms and future priorities for measuring impact and success. The Advisory Board for Safer Gambling’s first annual progress report (opens in new tab) completes the package.
The overview and supporting actions maps have continued to be based on information shared by named stakeholders in the Strategy, and have expanded as more projects and activities which support the Strategy have emerged. Organisations across Scotland, Wales and England have shared their progress and planned activity to populate these documents, and have shown their commitment to collectively delivering the Strategy’s aims.
Helen Rhodes, programme director at the Gambling Commission said: “In July last year, we said the implementation overview and map of actions were living documents. Today’s overview of the first full year of the Strategy, and assessment of actions in the second year, show how the range of work and partners is increasing in both number and reach. These documents will now be used by collaborative groups to assess priorities, gaps and lessons learned for each of Scotland, England and Wales.”
Call to action
We invite all bodies with an interest in reducing gambling harms to continue to share their own priority actions that support the aims of the strategy, and invite bodies with a role to advise and influence the strategy’s implementation to collaborate to identify duplication, or gaps in planned activity to deliver the strategy’s aims, and to recommend priority actions to better coordinate and take these actions forward. This includes individual and collaborative activities being taken forward by businesses and other organisations, which may not otherwise be shared through representative organisations.
