Government's consultation on proposals for changes to Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Measures

31 October 2017

We welcome the publication of the Government’s consultation on proposals for changes to Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Measures.

This consulation (opens in new tab) provides an important opportunity to consider the impact that gambling can have for some people. We would encourage anyone with an interest in the regulation of gambling to ensure that their voices are heard through the consultation.

As the Government’s Statutory Adviser we have already shared analysis and evidence with the Government including:

Reducing the risks that people face from gambling, especially those that are vulnerable, is at the heart of our advice that we give to Government.

Consistent with our statutory duties we will finalise and submit our advice to the Secretary of State, and copy it to Scottish Ministers, following completion of the current consultation. We will then publish our advice.

The consultation document also highlights the work we are doing separately to examine the online sector. In particular we are looking at data, market trends (both current and future), consumer participation and action by operators on social responsibility and crime in the online market. Once this work is completed it will also be published, including our recommendations for further action.
