Due to the impact Covid-19 is having on operations across the UK we have had to reduce our phoneline opening hours.

Our phonelines are open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10 am and 4 pm.

The contact us service is also available for answers to common questions and we will aim to respond to these enquiries as quickly as possible.

If you have a question about your gambling, or the gambling of someone close to you, our FAQs from gambling consumers during lockdown may provide valuable information. Our what we do page also provides an overview of the types of queries we are able to help consumers with in the first instance.

The National Gambling Helpline is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through GamCare. It is there to support those suffering from gambling problems or those concerned about the affect gambling is having on people close to them. You can call them free on 0808 8020 133, or visit gamcare.org.uk.

Gaming machines eLearning

We have worked with the Institute of Licensing to create an e-learning module on gaming machines.

This module is the first of three modules designed to help you, and other co-regulators, improve your understanding of gaming machines and their local regulation.

This module aims to provide an introduction on the topic of gaming machines and covers:

  1. the role of LAs in the regulation of gambling
  2. what is a gaming machine?
  3. various types of gaming machines.

Subsequent machine modules will cover:

  • physical aspects of a machine and how they work
  • machine notices and signage requirements
  • illegal siting of machines and how to take regulatory action.

We also intend to develop modules on areas other than gaming machines.

Please note, that the gaming machines sector is a diverse and complex one and this training is only designed to give a basic introduction, for help with complex issues seek specialist advice.

These modules can be accessed by anybody. You can access these modules via the IOL website, and these modules are CPD accredited (based on a 30 minute average).

You'll need to log in and then click on the ‘E-learning’ tab on the top right hand corner.
