Remote general betting (standard) (real events) operating licences
Regardless of where you are based in the world, you need a licence from us if:
- you are providing facilities for gambling to consumers in Great Britain online (or through any other means of remote communication)
- any part of your remote gambling equipment is based in Great Britain.
There is a remote operating licence for each type of gambling activity you might want to provide.
The remote general betting (standard) (real events) operating licence allows you to provide facilities for remote (online) gambling to consumers in Britain. It allows the provision of facilities for betting on real events (but not virtual events) by means of remote communication (for example, a website).
If your gross gambling yield from telephone betting is £550,000 or more then you will need this licence.
Where you offer betting on both real events and virtual events, you will also be required to hold the general betting (standard) (virtual events) operating licence in addition to this licence.
If you are a gambling software business that provides facilities for remote betting but only in circumstances in which you host those facilities through other operators’ platforms, then you may be eligible to hold a general betting (host) operating licence. To hold a host licence, your business:
- must hold a gambling software operating licence, and
- must not contract directly with any of the customers who place bets on the facilities you provide ie only customers of another operator can access your betting facilities via that other operator’s website or app.
Please see the general betting (host) (real events) and general betting (host (virtual events) licences for further details.
