The request may be limited to the years 2025, 2024 and 2023.

1. What the Gambling commission paid in external legal fees related to it's trademark portfolio (UKIPO registered marks) in the years 2000 through 2026, by provider and preferably also by work performed. E.g. Attorney Johnson - trademark application 2000£ in 2026, trademark renewals 500£ in 2025, etc.

2. What the Gambling Commission paid the UKIPO in renewal fees in the years 2000 through 2026

3. What the Gambling commission paid in Application fees at the UKIPO, by year, in the years 2000 through 2026.

4. What the gambling commission paid in total to the UKIPO, by year, in the years 2000 through 2026.

Response

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

In your email you have requested the following information:

1. What the Gambling commission paid in external legal fees related to it's trademark portfolio (UKIPO registered marks) in the years 2000 through 2026, by provider and preferably also by work performed. E.g. Attorney Johnson - trademark application 2000£ in 2026, trademark renewals 500£ in 2025, etc.
2. What the Gambling Commission paid the UKIPO in renewal fees in the years 2000 through 2026.
3. What the Gambling commission paid in Application fees at the UKIPO, by year, in the years 2000 through 2026.
4. What the gambling commission paid in total to the UKIPO, by year, in the years 2000 through 2026.

The Gambling Commission can confirm that some information is held falling within the scope of your request. In respect of your request, please see the following conducted by our external lawyers who look after the Gambling Commission’s trademarks (Mills & Reeve):

• Fees paid to UKIPO in 2023, 2024, and 2026 (so far): £0
• Fees paid to external firms to conduct the renewal of trademarks in 2023, 2024, and 2026 (so far): £0
• Fees paid to UKIPO in 2025: £800
• Fees paid to external firms (in this case, Mills & Reeve) to conduct the renewal of trademarks in 2025 with the UKIPO: £720

Please note that no information is held falling within the scope of your request in respect of the fourth National Lottery trademarks.

Review of the decision

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your Freedom of Information request you are entitled to an internal review of our decision. If you are not content with the outcome of our review, you may then apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have already exhausted the review procedure provided by the Gambling Commission. 

It should be noted that if you wish to raise a complaint with the ICO about the Commission’s handling of your request for information, then you are required to do so within six weeks of receiving your final response or last substantive contact with us.
