Personal licence maintenance
The Gambling (Personal Licence Fees) Regulations 2006 require
the holder of a personal licence to pay a maintenance fee to the
Gambling Commission within 30 days of the fifth anniversary of the
date the licence was issued. The first personal licences were
issued by the Gambling Commission and took effect on 1 September
2007 which means that the first personal licence maintenance fees
are due shortly.
The fees payable by the personal licence holder for maintenance
are:
- Personal Functional Licence - £185
- Personal Management Licence - £370
Please note that maintenance fees are non-refundable.
What information do I need to provide and how do I provide
it?
As part of the maintenance process, we will be updating the
information we hold on personal licence holders, we therefore
require you to complete
- a personal licence maintenance form via an online system.
Personal licence holders who do not have online access will be
able to request a paper form.
- a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) / Disclosure Scotland
form.
CRB / Disclosure Scotland forms cannot be completed online.
These will be posted to you and must be returned by post together
with:
- the required identity documents for the CRB / Disclosure
Scotland check (or certified photocopies if your identity is being
certified by your employer or a solicitor).
- a passport sized photograph.
Failure to provide the information requested will be taken into
consideration when considering your suitability to continue to hold
a personal licence and may result in the revocation of your
personal licence.
How do I pay the personal licence maintenance fee?
You will be able to pay online. This will be our preferred
method of payment. You will also be able to pay by calling us on
0121 230 6666 or by post (cheque preferred) to the address below.
If you are paying by post please enclose your remittance advice
(which was enclosed with your invoice) or details of your licence.
Cheques should be made payable to 'Gambling Commission'. Please
write the invoice number on the back of your cheque.
If you have a question about your particular invoice, please
email credit.control@gamblingcommission.gov.uk
or call (0121) 230 6666.
Failure to pay the appropriate fee will result in the revocation
of your personal licence.
When do I need to provide this information?
You will receive a letter, a CRB / Disclosure Scotland form and
an invoice in the post two weeks prior to the five-year anniversary
date of your licence. The letter will provide a secure code that
will enable you to access an online returns system, complete
your maintenance form and pay the fee online. At the same time, you
must return the CRB / Disclosure Scotland form, passport photo and
identity documents (or certified photocopies) to the Gambling
Commission at:

What do I need to do now?
We will contact you when your five year maintenance fee is due.
In the meantime, you should inform us, straight away, of any key
events that have not already been reported to us. All
personal licence holders are required, as a condition of their
licence, to notify us of key events within five working days of the
event, or as soon as is reasonably practicable. Key events for
personal licence holders include:
- the imposition of a disciplinary sanction against you,
including dismissal, for gross misconduct
- your resignation from a position for which a personal licence
is required following commencement of disciplinary proceedings in
respect of gross misconduct
- your disqualification from acting as a company director
- the entry of any court judgment against you
- the presentation of a petition for your bankruptcy or
sequestration or entering into an individual voluntary
agreement
- your conviction for any criminal offence or receipt of a formal
police caution or any other out-of-court disposal
- the imposition of any sanction or penalty against you following
an investigation by any professional, statutory, regulatory or
government body
- a change in your name or address (see also making changes to a personal
licence).
Please do not wait until the maintenance check to inform us of
the occurrence of key events as failure to comply with the
Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice will be
taken into consideration when determining your continued
suitability to hold a personal licence. Please e-mail details of
the key event to info@gamblingcommission.gov.uk
