The Gambling Commission has published the licensing authority statistics for the year ending 31 March 2014. This latest edition provides a comparison on data covering the period April 2009 to March 2014.

We have also published an Excel version of the statistics, to provide more transparency and an element of interactivity with the figures. 

Some of the key findings in this latest edition show:

  • all 380 licensing authorities submitted a return in time to be included in this year’s publication
  • 253 of which made at least one inspection
  • the number of authorities issuing 100 or more permits/notices has fallen from 28 for the year ending March 2010 to 0 for the year ending March 2014
  • betting shops represent the largest number of inspections and test purchase visits from licensing authorities

  1. The Gambling Commission (the Commission) regulates gambling in the public interest alongside its co-regulators local licensing authorities. It does so by keeping crime out of gambling, by ensuring that gambling is conducted fairly and openly, and by protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
