Concordat agreement for working with licensing authorities
The Gambling Commission and licensing authorities (LAs) in
England and Wales, act jointly as co-regulators of the gambling
industry under the Gambling Act 2005 (the Act). We regulate most
commercial, and some non-commercial, gambling in Great Britain.
We have agreed a concordat with LAs, via Local Government
Regulation (formerly LACORS – the Local Authorities Coordinators of
Regulatory Services). It sets out the principles in general terms
of how the Gambling Commission and LAs will carry out their
respective duties under the Act.
The practical application of those principles are detailed
in a set of protocols.
One of the findings of the
Hampton review was that we should
improve the way we work with licensing authorities, to minimise the
risk of duplication or over-regulation and make the most efficient
use of our resources. The concordat is a high level document which
sets out how we do this.
