Places available for final pair of open events
Press release
Date: 28 May
2010
The Gambling Commission (the Commission) is coming to Watford on
8 June and York on the 21 June as the successful series of 15 open
events draws to a close.
These are the final two open events in a nationwide outreach
programme that gives operators the chance to meet the Commission
and discuss industry issues. In May, more than 140 operators
attended the open events in Dunblane and Gatwick, bringing the
overall number of attendees to nearly 500 in total.
The events run from 9:45am to 3:30pm with the main feature being
an open forum with senior figures from the Commission. Operators
have been able to make clear their concerns about the industry and
the Commission has clarified its approach to issues such as
self-exclusion and test purchasing.
There has been a frank exchange of views at each event and the
majority of operators have backed the events. To date, over 70% of
those who attended and completed an evaluation rated the day as
good or excellent overall.

protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or
exploited by gambling. The Commission also provides independent
advice to government on gambling in Britain.
- 2. The Commission and local licensing authorities
are responsible for licensing and regulating all gambling in
Great Britain other than the National Lottery and spread betting,
which are the responsibility of the National Lottery Commission and
