Gambling Commission awarded Investors in People status
Press release
Date: 27 August
2009
The Gambling Commission has been awarded
Investors in People (IIP) status.
IIP is all about improving organisations
through their people and offers a flexible framework with a number
of levels that organisations can work to in order to get the IIP
award.
The Commission’s IIP assessment identified
areas where it had performed particularly well. The assessors found
that employees feel proud to work at the Commission and that
feedback from employees is taken into account by management.
IIP Assessor, John K Jones, said:
“At all stages of the assessment process I was
given clear evidence that this is an organisation that listens to
people in order to make improvements that result in improved and
effective performance.”
Commission employees also reported that the
Commission’s performance management system worked well by
establishing clear links between personal objectives and the
business plan.
Commenting on the achievement, the Gambling
Commission’s Director of Regulation, Nick Tofiluk, said:
“Achieving IIP status is another sign of the
progress the Commission is making towards being a first-class
regulator.
“We will continue to work to meet the high
standard Investors in People represents to drive forward our
performance.”

Notes to editors
The Gambling Commission
- 1. The Gambling Commission (the Commission) regulates gambling
in the public interest. It does so by keeping crime out of
gambling, by ensuring that gambling is conducted fairly and openly,
and by protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed
or exploited by gambling. The Commission also provides independent
advice to government on gambling in Britain.
- 2. The Commission is responsible for licensing and regulating
all gambling in Great Britain other than the National Lottery and
spread betting, which are the responsibility of the National
Lottery Commission and the Financial Services Authority (FSA)
respectively.
- 3. We chose to try for the ‘standard’ level, which
meant we had to work towards 39 evidence-based requirements under
ten different indicators. The Commission must continue to
demonstrate that it is meeting those 39 requirements. Our
achievement is valid for three years and we’ll be regularly
re-assessed in several areas.
