Vacancy for Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer

Location: Birmingham
Salary: circa £100,000

The Gambling Commission was established under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain. We are also responsible for regulating the National Lottery, protecting the integrity of the Lottery and maximising funds to support sport, culture and community causes across the UK.  

The gambling industry is growing and undergoing significant and rapid change. Under Chief Executive, Sarah Harrison’s, leadership, we are responding to this change, giving sharper focus to consumer interests, the role of evidence and analysis and partnership working. The executive leadership team is supporting an internal change programme to build on existing expertise, new ways of working and developing the culture of the organisation for the future.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Operating Officer will be accountable for the corporate functions, with responsibility for both successful operational activity and excellent performance by these departments. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast developing consumer market, operating in a global sector which is undergoing change as technology drives product development and consumer demand and experience. The Chief Operating Officer will influence at the most senior level of the organisation, at a time of change and help shape our future culture and strategy.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and communicative leader, capable of winning trust. They will bring experience working at a senior level in a COO or relevant corporate functions role. They will be an experienced people manager, used to working on high profile/sensitive issues. They will posses experience of leading a team through change, and will be able to evidence having achieved success through engaging their people, and demonstrable experience of managing headcount and budgets.
